Registration is closed

Join us for a group bike ride on the River North segment of the Rivanna Trail! To celebrate National Public Lands day (9/24) and celebrate the Rivanna Trail's 30th anniversary we have a full weekend of events planned. (In addition to this ride, co-sponsored by the Charlottesville Area Mountain Bike Club, we're also leading a full-loop hike, a family-friendly short walk, and a group run, as well as a bike ride of the main RT loop on Saturday, September 24. Check the event overview for details of the other options.)

  • Distance: ~ 15 miles.
  • Cycling time: approximately 3 hours according to ability and speed. We will be splitting into groups according to ability and experience.
  • Start: The Wool Factory is located at 1837 Broadway St. (map below). We will leave from the RTF tent at east end of the property, next to the railway trestle, promptly at 10:00AM ("wheels down").
  • Finish: We'll end back at the Wool Factory after noon, in time for an afternoon of music, food, and the opportunity to celebrate the Rivanna Trail's 30th anniversary with local beer, wine, and food available for purchase (thanks to the Wool Factory and Selvedge brewery).
  • What to bring: a sturdy mountain bike, clothes and helmet appropriate for “urban wilderness” riding and the weather conditions, water and snacks, and any personal needs. All riders must have a fat-tire geared bike, sturdy footwear, helmet, gloves, and water. Carrying a spare tube is recommended. Dress for the weather.
  • This is a strenuous ride - and is not suitable for first-time cyclists or children younger than 12, unless the are experienced riders. The RT is mostly a primitive trail, so "experience" means ability to ride on dirt trails with hills, roots, and rocks. That said, this is a perfect ride for an experienced beginner and all intermediates looking for a challenge. The bail-out option means no pressure to do the whole out-and-back, but everyone will be encouraged to finish as much as they can. This is a NO DROP ride - no one will be left behind.
